Una escasença mancada

Lo cap de la Glèisa catolica, lo Papa Leon XIV, en visita dins la republica francesa, es anat a Lorda en tèrra occitana ont Bernadeta Sobirós (1844-1879, canonizada en 1933) ditz èsser estada testimòni en 1858 de 18 aparicions de la Verge Maria dins la cauna de Massabielle, malgrat que la designe pas coma tala mas pel tèrme : « aquera » , que li auriá dich en gascon de Bigòrra : « Que soi era Immaculada Concepcion »

Èra l'escasença o jamai pel Papa de prononciar qualques mots en occitan, lenga de Bernadeta Sobirós menaçada uèi de disparicion quitament de dire la messa en occitan. Aquò auriá agut una portada granda davant una fola en finfa venguda a son rencontre. Perque qu'òm siá cresent o non, aquò seriá estat la reconeissença pel Papa de l'identitat occitana e auriá agut un impacte grand.

I a pasmens d'occitanistas en Bigòrra mas èran pas dins la fola o s'i èran, afichavan pas de bandièras occitanas.

Perqué an pas contactat lo Vatican per sensibilizar lo Papa a la question occitana plan abans sa venguda a Lorda ?

Lo Papa a pres suènh de totjorn s'exprimir en francés a París, çò qu'es normal. Benlèu auriá acceptat de dire qualques mots en occitan en Occitània.

Es una polida escasença mancada perque èra lo bon endrech e lo bon moment.

Lo Partit de la Nacion Occitana pensa qu'avèm pecat per negligéncia.

Deurem a l'avenidor sasir totas las escasenças mediaticas d'afirmar nòstra identitat occitana e nòstra lenga contra una republica que s'acarna a escafar tota identitat autra que francesa dins son sen.

Une occasion manquée

Le chef de l’Église catholique, le Pape Léon XIV, en visite dans la république française, s’est rendu à Lourdes en terre occitane où Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879, canonisée en 1933) dit avoir été témoin en 1858 de 18 apparitions de la Vierge Marie dans la grotte de Massabielle, bien qu’elle ne la désigne pas comme telle mais par le terme : « aquera » (celle-ci),  qui lui aurait dit en gascon de Bigorre : « Que soi era Immaculada Concepcion » (Je suis l’immaculée conception)

C’était l’occasion ou jamais pour le Pape de prononcer quelques mots en occitan, langue de Bernadette Soubirous menacée aujourd’hui de disparition voire de dire la messe en occitan. Cela aurait eu une grande portée devant une foule en liesse venue à sa rencontre. Car que l’on soit croyant ou non, cela aurait été la reconnaissance par le Pape de l’identité occitane et aurait eu un grand impact.

Il y a pourtant des occitanistes en Bigorre mais ils n’étaient pas dans la foule ou s’ils y étaient, ils n’affichaient pas de drapeaux occitans.

Pourquoi n’ont-ils pas contacté le Vatican pour sensibiliser le Pape à la question occitane bien avant sa venue à Lourdes ?

Le Pape a pris soin de toujours s’exprimer en français à Paris, ce qui est normal. Peut-être aurait-il accepté de dire quelques mots en occitan en Occitanie.

C’est une belle occasion manquée car c’était le bon endroit et le bon moment.

Le Parti de la Nation Occitane pense que nous avons péché par négligence.

Nous devrons à l’avenir saisir toutes les occasions médiatiques d’affirmer notre identité occitane et notre langue contre une république qui s’acharne à effacer toute identité autre que française en son sein.

A missed opportunity

The head of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, whilst visiting the French Republic, travelled to Lourdes in Occitania, where Bernadette Soubirous (1844–1879, canonised in 1933) claimed to have witnessed 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1858 in the grotto of Massabielle, although she did not refer to her as such but by the term ‘aquera’ (this one), who is said to have told her in the Bigorre dialect of Gascon: ‘Que soi era Immaculada Concepcion’ (I am the Immaculate Conception)

This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Pope to say a few words in Occitan, the language of Bernadette Soubirous which is now threatened with extinction, or even to say Mass in Occitan. This would have had a profound impact on the jubilant crowd that had come to welcome him. For whether one is a believer or not, this would have signified the Pope’s recognition of Occitan identity and would have had a major impact.

There are, however, Occitan activists in Bigorre, but they were not in the crowd; or if they were, they were not displaying Occitan flags.

Why did they not contact the Vatican to raise the Pope’s awareness of the Occitan issue well before his visit to Lourdes?

The Pope took care to always speak in French in Paris, which is to be expected. Perhaps he would have agreed to say a few words in Occitan whilst in Occitania.

It was a great missed opportunity, as it was the right place and the right time.

The Occitan Nation Party believes that we have been negligent.

In future, we must seize every media opportunity to assert our Occitan identity and our language in the face of a republic that is determined to erase any identity other than the French one within its borders.
